What Is Private Duty Nursing?
Private duty nursing is individual nursing care delivered at home by a licensed nurse (an RN or LPN) who is dedicated to one client during each shift. Unlike short visits, a private duty nurse stays with your loved one for the whole shift, following a care plan agreed with your family and, where needed, their physicians.
Who Private Duty Nursing Is For
- Aging parents with ongoing health needs who want to stay at home
- Recovery at home after surgery or a hospital stay

Private Duty Nursing FAQs
What is private duty nursing?
One-on-one nursing care at home from a licensed nurse dedicated to your loved one for the full shift, following a personalised care plan.
Is private duty nursing the same as home health care?
Not quite. Home health care often means short visits. Private duty nursing provides a dedicated nurse for whole shifts, from 12 hours to around the clock.
What is the difference between a private duty nurse and a home health aide?
A private duty nurse is a licensed RN or LPN who provides nursing care. A home health aide helps with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and meals. Many families combine both.
Can a private duty nurse help after surgery or a hospital stay?
Yes. Contact us before discharge if possible, and we’ll talk through the nursing support your loved one will need at home.
Who supervises the nurses?
Our registered nursing team, led by Director of Nursing Tiffany Italiano, RN, BSN, CCRN.
How much does private duty nursing cost?
Cost depends on the hours of care and the level of nursing needed. VIPrivate Care is a premium private-pay agency, and we provide a personalised quote after a private consultation.
